South Essex Auctions Advance Bid Terms
South Essex Auctions offers an online Advance Bid service, also referred to as commission bid, absentee bid, or similar terms. This service allows you to place bids on lots before the auction starts, even if you cannot attend in person.
How bids work
- Enter your maximum bid amount for each lot in the form. The auctioneer will aim to secure the lot for you at the lowest possible price.
- All fields must be completed, and bids should be submitted in whole British Pounds (£).
- In the event of identical bids, priority is given to the earliest submission.
- Bids must be received at least 60 minutes before the auction start time.

Reserve prices
Sometimes sellers set a minimum price they're willing to accept (called a "reserve price"). Here's how it works with your advance bid:
- If your maximum bid is at least the reserve price, you'll win the item at the reserve price (or just enough to beat other bidders)
- If your maximum bid is below the reserve price, we'll still bid for you up to your maximum, but the item may not sell
- We'll let you know if your bid successfully meets the reserve price
- The auctioneer may sometimes sell below the reserve price if they choose to
Fees
There's no extra charge for using advance bidding. You only pay the standard buyer's fees:
- 20% buyer's premium on the final price of each item
- Minimum fee of £2 per item (included in the 20% when applicable)
See our General Conditions of Sale for complete details.
Important Notes
- Advance bids are legally binding and subject to our standard terms and conditions.
- Please ensure your contact details are correct so you can receive notifications and updates.
By placing an advance bid, you agree to these terms.
